Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighbourhood within the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. In reality, the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to become professional, however due to a rapid expansion, she outgrew every one of her dancing colleagues. In an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. Once I had outgrown my male partners, I quit. For Brugel, it was the encouragement of a drama teacher from her high-school that led her to pursue acting. Her teacher advised her to audition for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts in 2000. For the last twenty years her career has seen her appear in over 60 movies and TV productions. The role she was most famous for was the one of Rita (shown below) in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member for the season 1 of the series. She was rarely seen.
